A police investigation has been launched following the publication of threatening messages targeting the grandmother of Lee Sang-hyeok (Faker), the professional League of Legends player widely regarded as the greatest esports athlete of all time and a multiple world champion with T1.
The messages were posted on an online community platform on Saturday evening but were later removed. Shortly afterward, a second post appeared, referencing a knife attack against women at Ilwon Station, located on Seoul Metro Line 3.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether both posts were made by the same individual. In response, police in Dobong District, an administrative area in northern Seoul, have increased patrols and strengthened security measures around the station as the investigation continues.
Lee Sang-hyeok, better known as Faker, has become one of the most recognizable figures in global esports. Throughout his career, he has helped elevate competitive gaming to unprecedented levels and remains a central figure in the League of Legends community.
For those unfamiliar with him, Faker also made a special appearance in the music video for “CEREMONY” by Stray Kids, drawing attention from both K-pop fans and esports enthusiasts worldwide.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have stated that they are treating the threats seriously while taking all necessary measures to ensure public safety.
